Cees Braakman was born in 1917 and passed away in 1995. Cees Braakman’s father was a Pastoe manager. This is precisely the producer Cees Braakman has become known for. When he was 17 he started working at the factory where he also lived upstairs. He traveled to America after the war in 1947 to study such as the production and production process of furniture. He led the Pastoe design team from 1945-1978 and developed the company’s first post-war modern furniture line. In 1958 he designed one of the first chairs for Pastoe that was made entirely of wire steel, the SM05. Braakman’s designs consist of simple long, flat surfaces and the absence of decoration. A visit to Japan led, among other things, to his design ‘Japanese desk’. That simplicity also fitted well in the 1960s in the Netherlands.
