Louis van Teeffelen (1921-1972) is a Dutch designer. From 1955 to the end of 1967 he is the chief designer of furniture factory Walraven en Bevers, later known as Wébé. It is a period in which this factory produces high-quality furniture in teak or rosewood and sometimes in walnut and wenge. At that time it was one of the larger furniture factories in the Netherlands. The sales area was mainly the Netherlands and Belgium. It is said that Louis also designs for Simplalux and Fristho. Evidence of this has not yet been found. From the late 1950s, Louis’ designs have been inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics. Louis develops his own style; his ‘hand’ can be unmistakably recognized. In the mid-1960s, interest in teak furniture in the Netherlands declined. Louis’s designs become tighter in shape. Rosewood is then the most common. The cabinets with rectangular metal or square wooden handles are simple in shape but very well proportioned.
